Thought drones were all about delivery? Goldman Sachs isn’t betting on it.

According to a March 2016 report from Goldman Sachs, the largest use case for commercial drones in the immediate future will be in construction, primarily in surveying and mapping construction sites.

Goldman Sachs estimates that total global spending on drones in the commercial market will be $100 billion over the next five years. Of that $100 billion, about $11.2 billion or just over 10% will be generated by the construction industry.

If you are a manufacturer you will be interested in the total opportunity which is basically CapEx. But if you are a service organization, or sell supporting services, the unit numbers are the ones that I believe are more likely to reveal new business opportunities – particularly in insurance claims and adjustment. I have no doubt this is why Measure is focusing their considerable resources on the space.
